new yorkers loooove to walk!

In true NY style for the holiday, the MTA went on strike this morning. I’m sure it won’t last long since the city loses $400 million a day not operating. God forbid they raise the metrocard fees again to make up for the loss.

One friend's employer put her in a hotel the night before, So she could get to work. And my other friend Sara, walked over the 59th Street Bridge to get to her job. She works for a retail website and can't possibly take a day off during the xmas shopping season. But in Grand Sara Style, she filled her coffee thermos with a Bloody Mary and started on her hike.

The hike only takes about an hour - I've done it twice actually - on 9/11 and also during the blackout in August of '03, the funnest of fun days (which is another story altogether).

2 years ago, another strike was threatened and I was working for my temp agency at the time. My friend Amy and I were planning to sleep at the agency office cuz we couldn't take a day off. I agree with transit workers fighting for their rights and higher pay - there are a lot of people in this country who should fight for the same thing. But I feel for New Yorkers, they are stressed out enough! And 5 days before xmas! There are some unhappy people there right now.

Lots of love to my NY friends!! Don't forget, a Bloody Mary in your Starbucks mug makes the commute a breeze!

Emmy My Love

So I know you're thinking, "gosh i wonder what Val was up to sunday night?" "Oh she's probably at her usual Emmy-sunday ritual of sitting in front of the tv, watching the pre-pre show, the pre-show, the emmys, and then the post-show. Well you would be right, except THIS year, I got to GO to the Emmys!!!! yes! i found out on saturday that a friend of a friend had a date that canceled last minute.

Sunday night was pretty damn cool. sorry i don't have pics at the show, but i didn't think they would let cameras in. so the dress is a red halter dress that goes to my knees. I found it at 'It's A Wrap' - a thrift store for clothes used in movies and stuff. $33!! can't beat that.

we didn't get to walk on the main red carpet, there is another side red-carpet entrance right next to the main one. that's where all the "less important" people get to go. and yes, the seats were on the balcony level towards the back. ha!

the shrine auditorium is awesome. seems like the thing to do is hang out at the bar in the lobby area and schmooze with everyone. i didn't do that, but def next time!!! anyway, the "less important" red carpet did have a few stars getting their pic taken, so i will be checking all the magazines w/ emmy pics. i did walk right behind Neil Patrick Harris and a couple girls, i didn't see who they were. i considered stopping to pose, i wonder if they take your picture even if they don't know who you are?!! ha!

it was very cool to see it live. although we were so far away, we were watching the screens most of the time anyway, so not much different than being at home. and i did get to see an emmy up-close that someone was holding as we were walking out. so gorgeous!! i can't wait to get one.

luv ya,
val

My Induction into the CIA

So my wonderful day working background on the set of Alias was the coolest. We spent the first half of the day with Jennifer Garner in a casino in “Monte Carlo”. Which was at the Biltmore Hotel. She’s very pregnant and still smokin hot in disguise.

I knew they were shooting more scenes afterwards in “The Shed”, one of the CIA offices. So early in the day, I informed a couple people that I would be happy to stay for those scenes just in case someone didn’t show up. I even brought wardrobe for it just in case. So I guess my charm and spy good looks can get me somewhere cuz they let me stay!

I was very excited to see Amy Acker on the set. She has a recurring role this season! Didn’t see my man Vartan though. I guess he’s still in a coma at this point in the season. Episode 4.

Anyway, I had a blast. Very long day. I was there from 5:30am till 9pm, but I would have stayed much longer. And I hope they call me again for more Shed scenes. Love it!!!

Quernzy Rant

Mad. Yes this is one of the few times you will ever see me mad, so cherish it for the madness it is.

I am starting with my love/hate relationship with LA. I wanted to say I hated it, but that’s not true. I don’t completely hate it. There are so many things I love about it. But the hate part of the relationship is growing and makes me miss NY ever so much more. Although, I have a love/hate relationship with NY as well!

LA is finally living up to what I originally expected it to be like. It fooled me from the beginning, but has slowly revealed itself to be the monster that it is. LA fools you into thinking it’s this magical place. but you have to work so hard to keep up that magic.

What I’m hating right now……if you can’t be real and say what you mean; Mean what you say; Don’t intend to follow through with what you feel or what you say you feel; Then I don’t want to deal with it. Don’t ask to ‘know me’ until you can prove that you know yourself. I’m disappointed in general. Disappointed that some are always on the search for something better and they can’t decide to enjoy what they have and enjoy what’s right in front of them. And I’m not talking about love, although it does apply. Just life in general.

Now I am desperately fighting the cynic. (“back, back!”) but the whip and cage helps. I refuse to give in to the cynicism this town creates. I will not let it be. I will put up a fight. But man some people! They make the fight so grand and ongoing, it’s amazing. Need to start training at Krav Maga just to keep up.

Yes it is really hard not be cynical in this town and in this business. It is so hard. But I have to find the balance of trust and cautiousness. I can’t give in to thinking that everyone will screw me over in my personal and professional life, because then it really will happen. I need to find that balance.

K. so that’s the end of my rant. Thanks for listening.

Resignation

i didn't write this, but i love it!
v...............

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult.
I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year-old again.
I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four-star restaurant.
I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks.
I want to think M&M's are better than money because you can eat them. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.
I want to return to a time when life was simple.
When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes.
All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.
I want to think the world is fair.
That everyone is honest and good.
I want to believe that anything is possible.
I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly
excited by the little things again.
I want to live simple again.
I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.
I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.
So . . . here's my check book and my car keys, my credit card bills and all my statements.
I am officially resigning from adulthood.
And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause. . . . . . . . . . .
"Tag! You're it."

Life Lessons from the Good Ol' Boys

Life Lessons from the Good Ol' Boys

Yes the Dukes of Hazzard was part of my childhood days and I’m proud of it! Here are some lessons from Quernzy inspired by the Dukes of Hazzard that will last a lifetime….

A day goes by much quicker when there’s a car chase involved. And a car chase isn’t worth watching if the car doesn’t fly in the air at least once.

Tight pants, flannel shirt and cowboy boots never go out of style and looks smokin hot. Not to mention a curly ‘fro and sideburns.

Give your car a name and a cute horn and it will perform better.

Yelling out ‘yee-haw’ just puts a smile on your face. Literally!

All problems can be solved within an hour. A new lesson learned every week.

Walkie talkies are so much more fun than cellphones. Especially when you can say '10-4 little buddy'. And have a cool codename.

Having a pretty girl around never hurt nothin’. And she usually has the brains and a lot of heart to bring to the situation anyway.

Along with the A-Team and Knight Rider (what is it w/ me and cars??), add a bowl of Breyer’s ice cream, and I don’t need to remember any of my other childhood memories. (I’ve forgotten the others anyway.)

Let's just hope the movie is even half as good....

And just a side note – downtown Hazzard County looks A LOT like Stars Hollow, home to a couple Gilmore Girls!! 25 yrs doesn’t change much on the WB lot.

love song

written by quernzy...

Love oh love really really sucks. It really really sucks oh yea. Yea yea baby yea. Love really sucks. Oh yea. Rock on! Dude it just sucks. It sucks ass big time. That’s it. Oh love love really sucks. I’m sick with it. Oh love. Love love. Hate it. Love it. Wanna get away from it. Can’t stand the thought of it. Wanna kill anyone in it. Wanna hate them forever. Oh love love really sucks. Really really sucks.

Guitar riff……

Wanna go piss on it. Wanna never see it again. Addicted to love but I need the cleanser cure. Get me away from it. Stick in that needle. Get it away. Never wanna see it. Never wanna be in it again. Love oh love really effin' sucks. Really really sucks. It effin' sucks ass. Love oh love. Do you hear what I’m saying. Stay the hell away. Get out. Oh love. Hear what I say. Oh love. That’s right love.

The Pen Store

Sandra and Joe at Staples, in the pen aisle.

SANDRA
So I need a pen. I need to get a pen. What kind of pen should I get?

(looking at all the pens.)
SANDRA JOE (together)
WOW.
(Sandra looks at Joe. They had the same thought!)

JOE
There are so many pens. How about the retractable? You could go for a retractable pen.

SANDRA
I could. They are great.

JOE
But what about smudging? I’ve heard there can be some smudging with those.

SANDRA
Oh. Well I don’t mind smudging once in awhile…. Smudging is not such a bad thing.
See, there’s a comfort grip.

JOE
If you like that kind of thing.

SANDRA
And then, the other question is: black or blue? Sometimes I want to write in blue all the time. But then I switch to writing in all black. But just one or the other though. Never mixing.

JOE
I like to write in red sometimes.

SANDRA
Oh I use red to mark mistakes. (Thinks for a moment.) Do you use red a lot? I mean, do you look for mistakes a lot?

JOE
Sometimes I just write in red and use black for marking mistakes.

SANDRA
I see.

JOE
I would get two then. Have one as a backup.

SANDRA
But can’t there be just one pen that’s good for you? Just the ultimate pen? That you can go to for everything.

JOE
Or there’s the package of Bics. Can’t go wrong w/ so many choices.

SANDRA
But I don't need so many. I'm happy with just one.

summer

sugar
innocent smile
was it for real?
fun all summer long
singing together
playing together
family.... I miss them.

even though I left, I was still there for you.
told you everything
my rock
wanted you in my life always
no matter how far

Suddenly, you were close, as if you had never left. Trying to pick up what we missed. I know I’m a million miles away again, but you left long before I did. Gave me a warning, but I didn’t believe you.

Wherever I am, my true friends are surrounded by a light so beautiful and clear. But then, I know that truth is always clear.

that's it

This is the last time. That's it. I won't fall for your plan. Why do I make the move to find you when I know better? You always leave things unfinished. I will not feel anymore. I feel nothing. I accepted it for so long. I let you walk all over me. What could I do? I was stuck. Looking for you all the time. Never finding you. I'm done.

There's the reason in front of me. I know why. I know why you did it.
Sometimes I know.
Or I don't.
Or I still wonder.
But it's over now. I'm done. That's it.
And I forgive you. I f'in forgive you.

is a place on earth

heaven is not far away.

it's closer than we think. all around us if we pay attention....

No - heaven is NOT this distant, unattainable place. it shows up around the corner, around the block. we can find heaven if we're present in the moment. in a flower moving in the breeze. in another person's eyes. in the laughter of someone you love. your favorite song playing when you needed to hear it most. it's all around if you open your eyes.

one of my most wonderful places to find heaven is on a plate. clean, round, white. and in the middle is the mecca - one lone, major gi-normous slice of cake. pick your flavor. mounds of chocolate or creamy cheese. the most buttery pecan pie ever made. i'll take fluffy pumpkin spice w/ the yummiest cream-cheese frosting. every bite takes you closer to heaven.

my top heaven findings:
the full moon's reflection on the ocean
silvery-skyblue eyes
well duh - pumpkin spice cake
laughter from someone i love
sunsets in arizona
when truth is present

The Pillow of Life

The Pillow of Life (Or Some Things You Can Learn from a 3-Year Old)

Why does life have to be so hard?? Life should be one big pillow. We could walk on pillows, jump on pillows, sleep on big pillows, eat on pillows (dude, the japanese do it!). Are you mad at someone? Throw a pillow at them! Life is so much better with pillows. If you get bored w/ your pillow floor, get a new pillowcase. Down, cotton, feathers, whatever, man.

I just want to work hard and play hard, but if (when) I fall, I want it to be on a pillow.
